WRU Update

Hi everyone, I am now the Club Operations Manager for the Senior and Youth Teams at Penallta RFC. Dave Roberts will have the same role for the Mini and Junior Sections. Our job is to liaise with the WRU Community Rugby Group to create a Roadmap for the return to playing our game in Wales.

WRU Webinar – Return to Rugby (Monday 15th June 2020)

Following the above meeting I have bullet pointed all the items that are current and relevant for you guys as Coaches / Team Managers / Players / Officials of the Club.

  • The Welsh Rugby Season will NOT start back in September.

  • The aim is to start back possibly in October, if not December, or even into January 2021.

  • Forget about England, Scotland, or Ireland and what they may do. The WRU are guided by Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government.

  • If / When the season starts back it will NOT be a 30 week season. The WRU will look to create fixtures on a local basis in line with relevant travel restrictions at that time. They will also look to align the start with the re-opening of Club Houses, but this may not be possible.

  • The Pro-game is likely to start before the Community game. (Regional, Premiership, Championship?)

Community Game

  • The Community Game will be phased, starting with RED through to GREEN again based on what restrictions are in place by Public Health Wales, and the Welsh Government at the given time.

  • We are currently in the RED phase and are likely to stay in that phase for several weeks yet.

  • This means NO Group training, only people from 2 Households can train together outside, observing social distancing rules.

  • NO SHARING of equipment, NO INDOOR training facilities.

  • When the registration portal re-opens on Mywru.com there was mention of symptom checking. All players must check for symptoms of Covid 19 before training. Any player displaying symptoms will not train, will inform his Club, and will be Red Flagged and not allow to train. He / she must then self-isolate as per the current guidelines at such time. The Club must ensure the above protocols are followed.

  • TRACK and TRACE will commence in relation to anyone that player as had close contact with.

Resumption of Group Training

When Group Training does resume it will consist of,

  • Small Groups (5 – 10), Zero Contact, NO sharing of Equipment, NO indoor facilities, NO sharing water or other drinks, NO Group / Shared travel to or from Training, and NO hanging around after training.

  •

GET IN, GET DONE, GET OUT

Next Steps

  • Group Training with contact.

  • Games with NO spectators.

  • Lastly back to the full game we love.

There will be strict guidelines on Training in terms of who can attend and what rules apply. These will be issued in due course but expect things like Register of attendance (Team Managers).

The Club Operations Managers will be the direct link between the WRU and the relevant Operational Leads, eg. Coach / Team Mangers / Club Officials.

Any CLUB seen not to be adhering to the guidelines can and will be liable to LEGAL ACTION.

SPREAD THE WORD NOT THE VIRUS

Stay safe and well, hopefully see you all together soon.

Mike Thomas.
