Hi everyone, I am now the Club Operations Manager for the Senior and Youth Teams at Penallta RFC. Dave Roberts will have the same role for the Mini and Junior Sections. Our job is to liaise with the WRU Community Rugby Group to create a Roadmap for the return to playing our game in Wales.
WRU Webinar No 2 Return to Rugby (Monday 13th July 2020)
To-night we have had a further Webinar meeting with the WRU in relation to the phased return to playing rugby. I have bullet pointed all the items that were discussed and what we are now able to do as a Club moving forward during the next three weeks and prior to a further announcement by Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government on 31st July 2020.
In the words of the WRU, “WE ARE NOT FULL ON GREEN LIGHT YET”.
The aim is to start back possibly in October, if not December, or even into January 2021, but this maybe be flexible and open to change if Government advice and guidelines are changed in the future.
We are now entering Phase 2 of the planned return where Non Contact small group training will be allowed from August 1st 2020. This training will be Club Sanctioned and Organised and will meet with WRU approval.
Groups of between 10 and 15 players will be allowed to train together in organised and prepared sessions maintaining social distancing guidelines relevant at that time. All training will have to be held outdoors.
There would need to be a reduction or removal of the 2m rule before any larger group or contact training will be allowed.
Face masks / Face coverings must be used when needed by relevant persons attending the training sessions (Physio / First Aid / Coaches / Team managers if a breach of the 2m is likely i.e Injury etc).
All players attending training sessions must complete the Symptom Tracker online, prior to attendance.
Registration
The Registration Portal will open for Players on August 1st 2020.
Whilst completing registration all Players, or Parents / Guardians of Players registering them on their behalf MUST complete a Mandatory training module in relation to Covid 19 and the return to rugby. (online).
A link will become available ahead of this date to allow players to complete this training module prior to August 1st registration.
There will also be an “How To” guide to inform players how to complete the training.
Future Webinars
The following Webinars will take place over the next 2 weeks in order to Provide Clubs and the club leads with further advice on different aspects of Phase 2 return,
Thursday 16th July 2020 – Guidelines and sanctioned training webinar.
Monday 20th July 2020 – Facility Guidance and resources webinar.
Wednesday 22nd July 2020 – First Aid and PPE webinar.
Thursday 23rd July 2020 – Return to Rugby Fund webinar.
Important to note
The WRU and the Club cannot and will not sanction any GROUP TRAINING before August 1st 2020.
Any Club that part-takes in such activities then the training will be Non Sanctioned and would have Insurance and Legal implications
The Club Operations Managers will be the direct link between the WRU and the relevant Operational Leads, eg. Coach / Team Mangers / Club Officials.
SPREAD THE WORD NOT THE VIRUS
Stay safe and well, hopefully see you all together soon.
Mike Thomas.
