Penallta strengthen the coaching staff on the eve of a new season

Penallta RFC are pleased to announce that Matthew Tucker has returned to the club as Head Coach. After a season away from rugby, Tucker was hungry to get back into the game and Penallta are delighted to see him back on the training field.

Tucker was Head Coach of Penallta during a hugely successful period for the club between 2009 and 2015, before stepping down to make way for Stevie Richards.

Stevie did a fabulous job last season guiding a young team to runners-up in both Division 1 and the Swalec Plate and is remaining with the 1sts to once again work alongside Tucker. Stevie's focus will be solely on the 1st team whilst Tucker takes on a more expansive role, overseeing coaching throughout the club and strengthening the ties between the mini and secnior sections.

Tucker's return follows that of Martyn Rowe, who has taken over coaching duties with Penallta Youth. Rowe worked as 1st team backs coach between until 2014 and joins Steven Cribb, Mark Williams and Gavin Thomas on the coaching staff. Gavin will no doubt enjoy sharing some of the coaching duties, as he will have eyes elsewhere, notably on his son Joe, who was selected for Wales Under 18s last week. Joe is currently in South Africa with the Wales squad picking up more international caps. The club wishes Joe and his family all their support and are immensely proud of his achievements

As ever, Penallta will this season be fighting for trophies on all fronts this season. The boosting of the coaching staff is a typical statement of intent from a club always looking to the future. Penallta has an incredibly proud history of player development and the strengthening of the mini and senior structure is massively important to everything that happens at the club.

Good luck to all the players and coaches at Penallta on the eve of a new season.
